Review

As always Pokerflat proves to have a fine nose to dig up the biggest truffles: with past releases on INTIM and an upcoming ep on the fabulous westcoast label SEASONS, young berlin producer PHONIQUE is surely one of the biggest german house talents to watch and this release further cements this theory. the main track “beat ‘n great” starts out with a very oldschoolish, nonchalant beat just accompanied by some bleeps - as minimal as it can get but bouncing like hell. a gnarling bassline injects more funk and will have you throwing down robotic dance steps. “trip to texas” keeps the minimalistic swing but with a miriad of surreal, freaky bleeping noises giving the track a loose bond to p-funk weirdness. still bursting with vitality, the closing “the opening” has a more laid back approach thanks to some slightly melancholic chords. 3 wiggling tracks that give you a lesson in reaching maximum effect through minimalism!
