It’s no news that house music transcends borders and is a worldwide language by now but this project on ALMOST HEAVEN puts this principle on wax with this joint venture by people residing all over europe: RALF GUM, DEEP FM and GENE DOUGLAS. RALF GUM PROJECT sets a nice summer mood with his effort: “across the bord” glides in smoothly with a skanking afro beat topped by an accoustic latin guitar improvisation before the 4/4 kicks in and puts the emphasis on a rolling funk sound with slick horn riffs, swirling fender rhodes, sax solo and soaring guitar. Vienna’s DEEP FM throws in a powerful vocal track with great falsetto performance by Martin Miller over some classic pounding house beats and a real funky bassline. label head GENE DOUGLAS contributes with a beautiful, melancholic downbeat tune: oldschool hip-hop breaks, chilling piano chords, cool blue notes thanks to a hot trumpet solo and accordeon flavors as a nod to his current Cannes residency and nights on the “boulevard de la croisette".
