Review

Gene Douglas’ Almost Heaven imprint has gained a crystal clear profile with all it’s releases so far: no hypes or gimmicks, but pure underground house music staying close to the U.S. roots. the new offering from TYRON DIXON is like the label’s manifesto - not just it’s title but also the music are like a declaration of resistance. a pure tribal groove is established in a long hypnotic build-up before almost overhelming synth strings lift you higher and a dry snare pushes you along for a latenight ride. GENE DOUGLAS’s dub has a harder, more electronic edge to it tweeking and filtering the original’s strings and adding a few effects in a deep wild pitch style while GARY LANZIERE’s take has a darker, haunting touch.
