Review

After the much appreciated first two Floppy Funk releases, here’s another example of Floppy’s funk and deepness! “Some kind of..” from Shaka is a diverse, old schoolish yet modern techno record. A killer record we think! The A-side offers the club groover “First one” and the beautiful deep detroitish “Heitere Gemüter". The B-side offers a re-relase: “Erfolgsgeblubber” was released on Morris Audio Citysport a year ago, but has been getting superb feedback (e.g. Steve Bug: “thisis huge!") and we just love this early Warp styled bleeper! Finishing off this well rounded EP, Shaka comes up with some great jazzy electronic trickery called “Phalonmukka". Great stuff for openminded freaks, and well worth checkin Shaka’s upcoming stuff on Revolver and his remix of Pan/Tone’s “Gringo Grinder"!

DJ MAG 12.2005: “As some German producers push into an abstract, at times, arhythmic version of house music, others remember the good old days. On ‘Some Kind Of’, Shaka falls into the latter camp, and, like other Floppy Funk releases, revitalises the spirit of Chicago and New York amid a modern interface. ‘First One’ is an unsual mish-mash, as ravey riffs and a half-heard vocal appear over a tight, jacking backing track, ‘Heitere Gemuter’ is all sweet jazzy keys and ‘Phalonmukka’ the most adventurous, using Warp melodies against a stop-start Windy City backdrop. Smallfish Records (UK): “Superb four track 12". Two killer club cuts that sound like vintage Prescription era Derrick Carter mixed by Pepe Braddock. The two deep cuts are equally impressive with a nod in the same two complimentary directions. Produced by Kurt Spichiger, this is a must for those who appreciate sublte production that still kicks....”
