DJ Sebbo from Würzburg is and has been a big influence on the scene in his hometown, where he holds a residnecy at the club Airport. He also started producing in the late 90s. Last year hee made waves with releases on Trackdown and Fullscale. His track “Beirut Boogie” for Liebe*Detail is a reduced and rolling affair, using orchestral horn and trumpet samples in a very innovative way. By adding a sparse breakbeat here and there, Sebbo manages to enrich his track with unobtrusive Funk that emphasises the general flow of “Beirut Boogie".Lars Wickinger lives and works in Berlin. He’s considered one of the up and coming newschool minmaists having released on Traum and Opossum so far. His “Villa Incognito” digs deep into an eloborate groove, which creates an improbable undertow. Single, swelling synths wash over the track every once in a while, creating subtle climaxes without stealing attention from the flowing, delicate percussion work. |
LIEBE016 in the media |
BLEED *****” DE:BUG 05/2007: “DE:BUG-Charts 05/2007: #18” Geoffroy Dewandeler: “Beirut Boogie is a killer...That Sebbo is on a roll...more, more & more plz...his two trax (chuncky fudge n this) are cellotaped in my box....” Geoffroy Mugwump (04-2007): “the sebbo track is totally amazing!” GROOVE 05/2007: “GROOVE-Charts 05/2007: #26” James Flavour: “lars wickinger side is great! moody” Laurent Garnier: “crazy stabs this will kick some arse when it is played at the right time ” M.A.N.D.Y.: “#2 - TopTen, March 2007” MIXMAG UK / 06-2007: “Liebe*Detail´s modus operandi is to release two tracks by two seperate artists on each 12³. It´s a formula that´s so far brought us some superb music, including Alland Byallo´s hypnotic Buckets, Serafin´s beautiful Starship Discotheque and much more. Lars Wickinger´s Villa Incognito is dark and grimy amd steadly builds to a noisy climax. The standout form e is Sebbo´s brilliant Beirut Boogie. It starts off with what sound like Beirut crowd noises, and develops into the aural equivalent of a movie car chase, with lots of crazy cinematic crescendos and prky percussion. (js)” Philipp / M.A.N.D.Y. (04-2007): “i fucking love it!” Philipp Sherburne (04-2007): “hey, really digging #16! especially the B-side, which is a little closer to my habitual style -- fantastic groove, and i love all the tonal percussion (hints of wood blocks, mallet instruments, etc), with just a suggestion of melody... good stuff! the A-side is wild, i'd like to hear it out somewhere to see how it works in a big room. those horn stabs...! ” RESIDENT ADVISOR / 04-2007: “Lars Wickinger's 'Villa Incognito' is an admirable excursion in restrained, detailed minimal – multi-layered, the deep synth swells and woodblock percussion add colour, but it never quite gets there. Mind you, Lars could have created the minimal equivalent of the Barcelona Pavillion (wait a minute…) and he still would have been overshadowed by the slightly berserk A-side. Sebbo kicks off with some pleasing found-city-sounds before 'Beirut Boogie' slowly slides in: the crisp, simple beats make it unusually funky while the nervous, metallic synths add a weird tension. But that's nothing compared to what follows – gigantic, dramatic horn stabs worthy of a Buster Keaton flick. PaaaRRRPP! Sounding not unlike an elephant with a trombone got loose in the studio, it's certainly different. Sebbo plays it cleverly from here, adding and subtracting gradual percussive layers and builds, but it's all about them stabs… File beside that James Holden 'Safari' remix in the 'brilliant/novelty weird noises' section. ” TIEFSCHWARZ / CHARTS 04-2007: “#5: Sebbo - Beirut Boogie” TREVOR JACKSON: “hello again think i forgot to tell you how much i'm still loving that sebbo beirut boogie track!!...perhaps i told you already?...but i can't stop playing it out & everyone freaks the fuk out when i play it (even the dumb people) :-D peace trevor ” |
