Review

One of the true Tuning Spork family members, Zurich born Michal Ho’s forthcoming double 12 “Screw The Coffeemaker” is sure to be stuck to your turntables and filling your floors very soon. Described by the man himself as “a tour of possible states", it’s a techno LP with no filler, one that’s blissfully free of downtempo vocal collaborations or long beatless intro tracks rescued from the recycle bin to make up the numbers. In the meantime, to whet your appetite we bring you a taster in the form of Michal’s “Takeaway” featuring Jon Jon, plus a package of three hot remixes. The remixes here come from some serious house and techno names who are sure to pique your interest in this hot track and the album to come, and let you squeeze some extra drops of juice out of the summer in these last few weeks. A1: Takeaway Featuring Jon Jon (Original Mix): One of the finest tracks from the forthcoming “Screw The Coffeemaker” LP, here’s Michal Ho’s original “Takeaway” track with Jon Jon on vocals. A quirky bassline keeps the track hopping as Jon Jon’s reverbed vocals slot into a mix of tight and funky organ chords and psychedelic percussion, making this an expertly produced piece of house music with all the colour of pop. A2: Takeaway (Rhadoo Mix): Romanian rising star Rhadoo has been causing a huge buzz this summer with his unreleased remix of St Germain’s “Rose Rouge” and a deep and epic techno cut on Arpiar, simultaneously putting Romanian dance music on the map (before it was only on the Romanian part of the map). Here he works Michal’s original into a dry and funky house music tool, with just a slice of Jon Jon’s vocal over pounding bass and a sliver of melody. This track builds some serious tension and mixes with just about anything, keeping peoples heads down in the clubs with its deep organic pulse. B1: Takeaway (Jona Mix): Jona has already made a huge name for himself around the techno scene with releases on Resopal, Toys For Boys ,Fumakilla and Get Physical. Now the

giles smith: “FORTHCOMING REVIEW FROM DJ... MICHAEL HO - Takeway ft Jon Jon (Tuning Spork) 4.5* Swiss born Michael Ho who has worked with the likes of Samim drops this sweet track along with some mixes from some of the best in the business. The original takes the biscuit with its slick, hypnotic, tracky sound. This is the kind of music Derrick Carter should still be making. Romanian, Rhadoo does a sterling job with his heads down techno mix with its bass drum heavy groove, augmented by some sharp piston like highs, and vocal snippets. Jona's mix is a trippy, melodic techno cut with some great crunchy drums while finally label owner Mr Haze steps up with a deft, slight of hand that really is another diamond in this excellent package. ”

Raresh: “some dance material on jay haze`s imprint :) like always .. keep it up ”

Michael Ho - Take Away: “ A1: Excellent piece of modern house music. Deep, forward thinking & sexy. Love it in every way. So cool. Great for late night. On heavy rotation. A2: Alright when monged out on K at afters but doesn't do enough for club use unless of course mixed up. Expected more from Radoo but then again I suppose he'll get brownie points from the Berlin minimal fraternity. Will use in the mix, maybe? 6/10 B1: Nice groove. I like the way this steadily builds with fun noises & I like the vocal treatment too. On rotation. 8/10 B2: Nice but the congas etc are a bit retro but I will use this. The original was a tough 1 to follow here & for me the best mix by a long way.”

Mike Monday: “I loved the last Tuning Spork release, and I love this one even more! All the mixes are up my street. but I played the Jona and the Jay Haze last weekend. Awesome...”

Mr C (The End): “ A1: Very nice indeed, crazy in fact. Cool rhythms & nice noises & very innovative. Just what the doctor ordered. On rotation. A2: Now that's what after hours are all about. fuckin' nuts! Love it. Will play at afters as well as force it on the ravers peak time in the main room. B1: That's simply amazing. Proper K-Hole material, 1 for the Monday morning club. Love it. Will use whenever appropriate. B2: More mad shit. Lovin it. This is the sort of thing that Irdial used to release back in the early 90's, wicked. If there's justice in this world I just listened to the music of a true rising star! Vive MFP!”

Nacho Marco (WNW/Freerange): “ Favourite track: Original mix. Nice groove, will play it.”

Onur Özer: “PLaylist!”

Tobi Neumann (Cocoon): “nice one! I like the original and very much the Rhadoo remix..”
