While Alex Celler may be a newcomer to the TuningSpork family, he’s already made his mark in the global house scene over the past three years: his energetic, swingy productions have made their way onto labels such as Cecille, Area Remote, Cocoon, Freak n’ Chic, NRK and others. With the Trapped in Dub EP, the Greek-born, London-based producer combines his usual tribal rhythms and techy beats… but not without some unusual elements added into the mix. The title track has a bit of TuningSpork humor, with children chanting and clapping, punctuated by soul-brotha guitar hits. “Indalgo” is more restrained, with snappy beats countered by gentle chimes, and a pastiche of other samples that exit just as quickly as they enter. On “Luciola", Alex turns the energy up a notch, with tumbling, punchy drums that pave the way for a soaring synth melody, rounding out the EP with a buoyant tone.
