The first single from her upcoming Wagon Repair debut album and her first release of 2009, Dinky (aka Alejandra Iglesias) is ably following up on the momentum gathered from her 2008 album ‘May Be Later’ on Vakant. In a decade of releases on labels from Cocoon and Traum to Carpark and Crosstown Rebels, Dinky continues to cement her place amongst techno’s most enterprising producers with four new tracks. Opener ‘Wind’ mesmerizes with repetitive keys looped over a straight kick. Chirped tones pulse curiously amidst descending melodic chimes in a steadily evolving elemental journey that equally evokes Reich and contemporaries (and new label mates) Cobblestone Jazz. ‘Outro’ establishes territory with intoxicating arpeggio melodies, while ‘Wet Hair’ plunges us into submarine depths. Dripping with resonance and reverb, sporadic metallic tones color a dense mix of murky pads and sharp beats. Interrupted briefly by an epic symphonic interlude, ‘Wet Hair’ continues its descent into deep and dark territories to close. The EP’s closer, ‘Butterfly’ floats with squeaked melodic tones and breathy vocals taking lead over a busy percussive base. Saturated with a variety of sounds from indigenous samples to wobbly bass and deep detuned keys, ‘Butterfly’ takes us on a winding scenic route, disorienting and enchanting in equal measure.

WAG052 in the media

Giles Smith (secretsundaze): “FULL REVIEW FORTHCOMING FROM DJ - WILL SEND PDF ONCE MAG IS OUT. DINKY - Lydian EP (Wagon Repair) 4/5 After not releasing anything for a while Dinky makes a welcome return on Wagon Repair. "Wind" Starting with a reduced creepy, warping bassy synth and kick the track begins to twist and turn and has the clear druggyness of many WR releases while keeping the groove. It really trips out towards the end of the track with a dubby swirling bass and some soulful flourishes. Nice. "Outro" is a beatless electronica track while "Wet Hair" is heads down tight, and slightly menacing deep Techno. Last up "Butterfly" finshes off a really well rounded ep with a really quirky, trippy, ethinicy feel.. Welcome back Dinky.”

Karotte (CocoonGreat Stuff): “a 1 ist ein schöner track von dinky. ich mags.”

Mathias Kaden (Freude am Tanze: “wonderful!!!”

philip sherburne: “awesome title (i hope "mixolydian" comes next...). i really like the machinic, modular feel of it and the muted texture of the sonics. i wish "wind" had a slightly more compelling bass riff to match the sonics, but that's just my taste.... "butterfly" is really nice, easily the freakiest beat on the EP. bonus points for including the 2-minute ambient track.”

Ralph Moore MIXMAG (UK): “Good to see Dinky on a quality label like Wagon Repair. Another bomb!”
