Kasper Bjørke is Young Again

hfn02

Kasper Bjørke, one of Copenhagens most renowned

producers and DJs , announces his second long-player
exclusively on hfn music!
‚Standing on top of Utopia‘ will drop in February 2010, and
Young Again‘ is the fi rst single to be released in anticipation
of what is sure to be a momentous album.
Featuring the mesmerising vocal talents of fellow dane
Jacob Bellens, and bundled along with three simply unmissable
remixes from WhoMadeWho, Lopazz & Zarook
and Serge Santiago, ‚Young Again‘ is a heart-warming
tale of love and life, told through the eyes of a hopeless
romantic.
Kasper‘s unique instrumentation and production skills add
up to him being one of the most important, young musicians
emerging at the moment.
This single shows off his potential for producing hit records,
not only with classy, catchy melodies and re-listen-ability
but with A-Class studio fi nesse too!
Jacob Bellens, of ‚I Got You On Tape‘ and ‚Murder‘ fame
is well known amongst Copenhagen‘s indie scene, and so
it made perfect sense that Kasper teamed up with him, to
create this spellbinding, modern pop song.
Kasper then asked Italian string composer Davide Rossi
(who has previously worked with artists such as Goldfrapp,
Royksopp and The Verve) to perform a cinematic
stringsection, making the soundscape of Young Again
complete.
To top everything, Swiss graphic designer and multi artist
Florence Tetiér has created a beautiful music video, to
give Young Again a strong visual side as well.

The Remixes:
Danish indie disco kids WhoMadeWho provide an amazing
interpretation full of live instrumentation mixed with
casually dubbed electronic undercurrents. Wrapping the
original vocal in a pair of skin tight jeans ready to rock out
to house music, this hypnotic analogue version is as individual
as it is versatile!
Serge Santiago is a name any respectable electronic
music follower should be familiar with. Blending funky italo
disco, acid house and everything between, his DJ sets
and productions hold him in a class of his own. Santiago‘s
‚Italo Boot Mix‘ whips things into a frenzy, just in time for
summer closing parties worldwide!
Remix duties are also dutifully fulfi lled by Heidelberg‘s
Lopazz and Eddie Zarook, who have been friends and
studio partners for many years. Lopazz, who‘s countless
releases for labels like Get Physical, adds his classic analogue
tweaked out touch, while Zarook blends in a touch
of deep and techy minimal house into the mix.

Dinky's Anemik but fresh air!

WAG056CD

Following up on her unanimously acclaimed debut album ' May Be Later' (Vakant), Chilean artist and Berlin transplant Alejandra Iglesias conceived 'Anemik' entirely for the Wagon Repair label after being approached by label head Mathew Jonson.
A musing on femininity and the fine line between romance and delirium, 'Anemik' transcends borders in its range of influence and reflects consciousness in the fluidity and tangibly live origins of its creation. Recorded using analog equipment and acoustic instruments with a strong emphasis on voice, there is a wisdom and maturity to this work that suggests an artist in the prime of her life.
Opener 'Childish' builds from meditative beginnings with looped synth, wandering pads and wildfire percussive cycles that concoct a deep and dreamy landscape.
'Romaniks' creates space between electronic and acoustic spheres with Latin soaked beats encircling a subdued kick. Mantric vocal chants inject a mystical dimension to the affair, its psychedelic overtones continuing into 'Westoid', where Dinky's vocal lament is complimented by the baritone accents of Los Updates enigmatic Jorge Gonzales.
'Gold Fishes' bubbles into being with processed choral scales, while 'Rain Fallic' is a mid tempo trip of lazy legato harmonies and epic Telecaster drones. Title track 'Anemik' is a restless electronic frenzy, with melodic and percussive elements feuding amidst staccato vocals, effervescent machine transmissions and a penetrating central kick.
'Glacial' opens with an aquatic brew of reverberant vocals and deep percussion that swims through murky pads and delayed keys to close. 'Ceramik' weaves a tight beat, with warm Rhodes accompaniment, live percussion and ramped vocal passages concocting a mesmeric floor worker for the early hours. A perfect example of the fluid, jam infused tone of the album as a whole.
Thumbed melodic patterns and sonorous key stabs characterize 'Glassic', while 'Skyped' intertwines grandiose processed chorals, deep metallic percussion and leveling pads in a hypnotic malaise of storm and sweat.
The infectious arpeggiated melodies of 'Epilepsia' are invigorated by live Latin percussion and intermittently cooled by warm pad progressions in a contemplative ascent to close. 'Fadik' grips as a wonky love song set to cascading beats, strummed guitar and electronic emissions, while closing track 'Nocturnal' unsettles with moribund ambient shivers to complete the kaleidoscopic range of flavors and emotions offered by this most remarkable of records.
At times dreamy, at times nightmarish, at times romantic, at times befuddled, 'Anemik' is always quintessentially Dinky.

Luciano's Tribute to the Sun

CADCD05

It's been nine years since Lucien Nicolet's first record, and in that time he has earned his place among
electronic dance music's most celebrated names. He's racked up singles for the likes of Mental
Groove, Perlon, Desolat and of course Cadenza. He's remixed everyone from M83 to Salif Keita, and
his mix CDs for Fabric and Soma's Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi. series have showcased minimal house and techno at
their most sensual, supple and jubilant. And Luciano's DJ sets have become the stuff of legend the
world over.
Throughout his career, the Swiss-Chilean musician has experimented liberally with longer formats,
including a live album for Thomas Brinkmann's max.Ernst label and 2004's groundbreaking No Model
No Tool, a recombinant set of groove components. But in all this time he has released only one proper
studio album, 2004's Blind Behaviour, which veered away from the dancefloor in search of more
esoteric pleasures. At long last, with Tribute to the Sun, Luciano delivers one of the definitive
highlights of his career.
Not merely a "dance" or "electronic" record, Tribute incorporates musical styles from around the globe
with Luciano's inimitable rhythmic sensibility. It draws upon Luciano's extensive experience as a mover
of bodies and a reader of the crowd's mind. Many of its grooves form an integral part of Luciano's DJ
sets, having been road-tested and continually refined. But it's very much an album to be listened to
front to back. (Most of the album's cuts will also be made available as extended edits, for vinyl and
download alike.)
Tribute to the Sun is above all a highly personal portrait of the artist. Informed by the ups and downs of
the artist's life, and the balancing act between life on the road and the refuge of family life in rural
Switzerland, its moods run from the heavenly grace of "Celestial" to the outright madness of
"Metodisma." This is the fullest portrait yet of Luciano as not just an artist but a human being.
Four years in the making, the album finds Luciano collaborating with a cast of musicians as talented
as they are diverse. Martina Topley-Bird, of course, is known for her haunting contributions to
Tricky's early classics, as well as for her solo career and collaborations with the likes of Danger Mouse
and Mike Patton. Senegal's Ali Boulo Santo, heir to a long line of griots and nephew of the legendary
"King of the Kora" Soundioulou Cissoko, was said to be "born with a Kora in his hands"; he pioneered
an electronic fusion of Mandingue Afrobeat in his recordings for Frédéric Galliano's Frikyiwa label, and
here his contributions continue to expand the possibilities for "world" music in new contexts.
Switzerland's Bruno Bieri is the inventor of the Hang, a kind of steel drum with a sound like a
mountain stream; "Hang for Bruno" features both his limpid melodies and the contributions of the
Israeli percussionist Omri Hason, a student of the Iranian master Djamchid Chemirani. Omri Is also
part of Luciano’s live project Aether.

Samuel L Session is The Man With The Case

BAOCD001

The Man With The Case’ is a culmination of two decades of experience from Swedish old school techno legend Samuel L. Session.
The sound of the past often collides with current movements but never has it sounded so fresh than from Samuel L. Session AKA SLS. His skills and knowledge from the evolving electronic music scene create a stark and original album project to remind us what the real sound of techno is.
Sounding as fresh as the early days of the 909, ‘The Man With The Case’ harks back to the house veins of Kevin Saunderson and Derrick May but in an inspiring new context, digging into the roots of techno while stamping the SLS classic and groovy print into each production.
The album opens elegantly with ‘Time’, drifting into a dreamy and evocative atmosphere glowing with luminosity. Bouncing straight into ‘Chimes’, the B side for the first EP release earlier this year sinks quickly into rolling grooves and soars with radiant melodies.
The tempo is raised with burning dancefloor cuts ‘Tronic’, ‘My People’ and Big Bad Drum’, the classic bomb released earlier this summer on Be As One, and simmers with the smouldering embers of the warmth of house music in ‘Lucious’ and ‘Past and Present’. Menacing flares and bold snares make ‘The Soloist’ shake the skull and the closing moments in ‘Tight Stack’ and ‘Pulse’ offer a chance for reflection and new insight.
Samuel L. Session’s career began in the late eighties when mixing hip hop and early forms of techno and house in his home of Sweden. His SLS guise soon became synonymous with groovy techno through a string of high profile releases on labels such Planet E, Soma and Intec and remixes for techno veterans such as Slam and Kevin Saunderson. SLS also founded a string of his own successful imprints, Solid Beat, Cycle and Klap Klap, each making a significant mark on the landscape of techno.
Now a main player in the Be As One family, ‘The Man With The Case’ gives way to a new dawn in electronic music, while still keeping the spirit of it’s origins alive.

Cassy's Cocooning Mix

CORMIX026

Like hardly any other contemporary DJ, Catherine Britton aka Cassy is living at the interfaces between reduction and soul, jazzy deep house and geometrically structured techno. And it comes as no surprise, because being the English-born daughter of a Caribbean father and an Austrian mother, Cassy started at a very early age to develop a sense for artistic aesthetics that draws its special magic from the 'in-between' especially. Being resident in Berlin since 2003, she quickly gained a residence at the Panorama Bar, worked as a producer with such renowned musicians like Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano, Mathew Jonson or Swayzak and releases her music on labels such as Perlon, Ostgutton as well as on her own imprint Cassy. "Simply Devotion", Cassy's second Mix CD after the highly acclaimed Panorama Bar 01 compilation is a proof of her love for Deep House of a different kind, which has – despite occasional flashes of souly vocals – nothing to do with Garage House and Handbag factor. With unhurried charm and a secure sense for the seductive power of House music, Cassy is enchanting us with more than 70 minutes of sensually concentrated sound hypnosis and she starts with an exclamation mark: together with his Ifach buddy Ian Loveday aka Minimal Man, Baby Ford is beguiling the listener with oriental-inspired Mantra House that every mow and then shows little memories of Italo Pop ("Sunshine-Minimal Man Remix"). Anton Zap from Moscow, who released on Uzuri, reminds with his purified form of percussive Dub House of the best days of a Chez Damier ("Spain"), and Danny Howells (Bedrock, London) makes you speechless with his aestheticizing "September", a breathtaking string furioso in the best tradition of Detroit Trance, remixed by Future Beat Alliance. Cassy's own and unreleased track "Magnificent Cat Won't Do" is referring to her Cocoon Compilation H track "A Plea for me" with the kind of electrically charged Minimal Dub Soul that is so typical for her. The final track comes from Miami's House institution and Murk legend Ralph Falcon with his House Mixx of "Whateva", which is eventually abandoning even the slightest trace of restraint, sounding somewhere in between R'n'B vocals and acid reminiscences. After all, "Magnificent Cats" are not only known for pleasantly purring in the sunshine, but may also bite abruptly and strongly in the next moment.

Sebo K mixes at Berlin's Watergate

WG004

Sebo K has long been a key gure in Berlin’s music community, starting his DJ
career in the early 90s at Alec Empire’s Bass Terror nights, Berlin’s rst UK-style
breakbeat parties. By the mid 90s he had discovered his love for Chicago house
and Detroit techno - a passion evident to anyone who has heard the vintage
depths many of his tracks nod to - and at the turn of the decade began playing
regularly at legendary clubs throughout Berlin. Now he’s becoming an
unstoppable force in the electronic music scene. One of his rst tracks for
mobilee, “Rancho Relaxo” was an instant classic, establishing Sebo as an
up-and-coming act worthy of extreme attention. To declare that Sebo has lived
up to expectations would be an understatement to say the least.Despite a relatively sparse discography of original productions, quality over quantity
is the name of the game for Sebo K, with each of his productions - from his debut on
mobilee to his most recent track, “Diva” - receiving universal acclaim from both DJs
and critics alike and cementing his position as rst-rate producer. Alongside his now
timeless original productions, Sebo has done remixes for some of the most respected
labels and artists on the planet including Poker Flat, Mule Electronic, Radioslave, and
Efdemin. Meanwhile, his tracks have appeared on a nearly uncountable number of
compilations and mixes by DJs such as M.A.N.D.Y., Richie Hawtin, Steve Bug, Dennis
Ferrer, Loco Dice, and Dixon.
His love for soulful, deep vibes combined with his ability to transition seamlessly
between minimal techno and straight house - and an uncanny ability to blur the lines
between the two - has reinforced the importance of house in an age seemingly
inundated by techno lovers. His residency at Berlin’s Watergate in tandem with
constant gigs at high-prole venues around the world has demonstrated that Sebo’s
DJ abilities are on par with his exceptional production skills, and that his seemingly
endless string of successes isn’t likely to end any time soon.
Sebo Ks residency at Watergate culminated this year in an own night "Sebo K &
friends" to which he invites his friends and DJ legends from all over the world. So it's
no wonder Sebo now steps in to mix Watergate04 and showcase his talent in a DJ
mix, lled with Watergate exclusive edits by artists such as Melon, Rndm (of Dial
fame), Agnes from Switzerland and Sebo K himself. Also you will nd some hard to
nd classics by Mood II Swing and Rick Wade as well as exclusive tracks by french
"Tausendsassas" dOP, who even contributed a specially composed intro to this mix. All
this gets blended to a superb Mix of timeless Deep House Music just the way you
would hear it on a "Sebo K and friends" saturdays at Watergate in Berlin.
