Roisin Murphy - Overpowered (2x180g + Bonus Track), Territory: Europe only

Bewith038LP
Territory: Europe only, 2018 REISSUE - REMASTERED 2LP COLOURED VINYL (1 ORANGE / 1 PINK) W/BONUS TRACK “PARALLEL LIVES” (FIRST TIME VINYL APPEARANCE)

A singular presence in 21st Century pop, Róisín Murphy is a genuine maverick. Her seminal 2007 album Overpowered received widespread acclaim from music critics yet, arriving at a time of waning major label interest in vinyl, it was released only as a hyper-limited double LP. Accordingly, in the decade since, it has been obscenely difficult to find. It is a true honour to finally reissue this thoroughly modern dance-pop classic on Be With. Whilst remaining true to the loud pink and orange wax of the original release, this remastered edition enjoys the bonus inclusion of fan-favourite “Parallel Lives", finally making an appearance on vinyl. A sumptuous, all-killer electro-disco gem, every song could’ve been a smash. With its heavy disco influence - deep beats, lush synths and subtle horns and strings - Overpowered was focused solely on the dancefloor. Inspired by the Eighties proto-house of D Train, Mantronix and Gwen Guthrie, but also recalling the intelligent pop of Yazoo and early Eurythmics, Overpowered presented sensual electronic soul for the heads and the hips. Her collaborators, including Timbaland mentor Jimmy Douglass, Bugz In The Attic and Richard X, constructed a gleaming shrine to the spirit of Bobby O and Giorgio Moroder by stitching together crisp synthesised beats with the slicker tics of early house. The lead single and title track lifted the bassline squelch from the dawn of cosmic disco – La Bionda’s “I Wanna Be Your Lover” – and the follow-up, “Let Me Know", effortlessly incorporated the chorus of Tracy Weber’s 1981 boogie bomb “Sure Shot". The wonderfully dank, sticky R&B of “Primitive” is Murphy’s favourite track from the album: “I mean, who gets to put primordial soup in the first line of a song?

Ricardo Villalobos - Mandela Move (2x 12" EP, Vinyl Only)

Deset02 Berlin mainstay Ricardo Villalobos has delivered the ‘Mandela Move EP,’ a 4-track EP of freshly stripped-back dancefloor movers saturated in brilliantly clever, unorthodox and masterful sound design. Arriving as the second release on the Deset label, Ricardo Villalobos offers his incredible production talents to the blossoming Italian label, already heavily desired by both discerning DJs and punters alike. ‘Mandela Move’ is a patient club cut in true Villalobos style: loopy, tracky and trippy. Sonically shapeshifting in different directions, surprise percussion changes, perfectly sourced samples and a storytelling theme from start to end. ‘Frontec’ is a shimmering 13-minute banger focused on only the most important elements and effects. Live percussion and fantastic tones sprinkle throughout with creatively tuned bells and whistles scattered across in a way only Ricardo can do. ‘Ectroscop’ comes complete with some fuzzy bass frequencies and twisted vocal samples which rest under the surface. The loose rhythm structure and general freedom of the track confirms a true dance cut destined to be a favorite for the crowds listening closely. ‘Beetglass’ is centered around a shuffling house foundation with huge synth swirls which come seemingly out of nowhere. Truly a prime time Villalobos banger if there’s ever been one. Destined to lift the heads off the lucky folks on the floor when it’s played.

Joe Tossini And Friends - Lady Of Mine (2019 Re, 1lp+mp3)

jtm001
Lady of Mine is the 1989 debut LP / CD by self-made Italian-American Joe Tossini. An astoundingly honest, passionate record of cosmopolitan lounge music, he willed this charming suburban oddity into existence without any formal musical training.
Sicilian by birth, Tossini drifted around the world between Italy, Germany and Canada, before finally settling in New Jersey. After the passing of his mother and the breakdown of a second marriage, an anxious and depressed Tossini took to songwriting as a form of therapy, crafting disarmingly candid lyrics from his extraordinary life and loves. Whatever industry savvy or musical virtuosity he lacked was made up for by unflinching resourcefulness and infectious charisma. Befriending bandleader Peppino Lattanzi at local club The Rickshaw Inn, he was encouraged to animate his singular songs with an ambitious cast of 9 players and 5 backing vocalists, sincerely credited as his Friends. The Atlantic City basement sessions are a low budget, high romance testament to Tossini's character and the power of positive thinking. From the defiant, Casiotone samba of If I Should Fall In Love, to Wild Dream's dizzying escapism and the native tongue croons of Sulla Luna and Sincerita, Lady Of Mine hums with the inimitable magic of a true original. Piercing the heart with an effectively sparse combination of humming keys, CompuRhythm drums, horn flourishes and backing divas, ample room was left for Tossini to frankly deliver his much-needed life lessons. Underperforming commercially at the hands of short lived label IEA Records, Lady Of Mine has since earned a place in the outsider music canon. Recently peaking interest as a cornerstone of the Sky Girl compilation, the private press trades for inordinate sums, typically with no financial benefit to its creator. Lady Of Mine is now finally reissued on the artist's own terms via Joe Tossini Music, in partnership with Efficient Space, restored from original master tapes with unseen photos, extensive liner notes and Tossini's trademark wisdom. Devoutly independent, Tossini has previously self-released the 2015 instrumental album When You Love Someone as well as two books - a new fiction novel The Devil In White and his autobiography The Account of My Life.
