Catz 'n Dogz - Friendship (2LP + DL)

pets102x(For CD here) At the forefront of the dance music landscape, DJ/Production duo and label heads, Catz ‘n Dogz are well and truly in the driver’s seat of their musical journey. Starting out as close friends, the pair have risen to critical acclaim, leaving a lasting impression on the electronic music community with their honest productions and label releases; spreading the love far and wide. With friendship as one of the main precursors to their success, they present a warming and emotional album channeling the intricacies of ‘Friendship’ and relationships. Escaping to a wooden cabin in the Spanish countryside village, Cercedilla , which also shares the name of the opening album track, Greg and Voitek came together to create an album that re-wrote the Catz ‘n Dogz history book. Known for their diverse style and ability to craft varying pace and rhythm, the duo sought out consistency with their ‘Friendship’ LP to make an album in the truest sense; a long player to be listened to as one body of work. The 4x4 beat underpinning all music across the project, ‘Friendship’ encourages listeners to be at one with themselves and enjoy their life; to go with the flow of highs and lows that come with it. As a testament to the bond that has allowed Catz ‘n Dogz to build and establish themselves, they invite a band of close friends and like-minded peers to collaborate on the album.

Frank Harris & Maria Marquez - Echoes (LP,180g, DLX Sleeve, Insert)

SL104LP "Echoes" is the Ethno-Wave love child of collaborators Frank Harris & Maria Marquez. A collection of sublime songs dating back to ‘85, avante-pop flourishes are married here to the heart strings of a synthetic Amazon- think MFM’s “Outro Tempo” meets a tropical Sade. With much contemporary interest in South American electronic music, Echoes is a window into two musicians prescient dreamings of tradition, melody & technology. Revelling in the embrace of Maria’s Venezuelan roots & folklore visions combined with Frank’s custom Synclavier synth station, songs such as ‘Canto Del Pílon’ and ‘Tonada de Ordeño’ resonate with a charged future/primitive electricity, Maria’s song-to-a-siren vocals mainline with Frank’s lush sonic alchemy. Heavy weight 180gram pressing, mastered for vinyl by George Horn @ Fantasy plus 2 sided full size insert.

Asian Dub Foundation - Rafi's Revenge (20th Anniversary Edition)

LMS5521230(LP/CD)
Rights: World excl. France & UK
“Right here, right now ADF are the most important band in Britain.” NME 1997 Rafi’s Revenge originally peaked at number 20 on the UK Albums Chart and was shortlisted for the 1998 Mercury Music Prize, with Bobby Gillespie hailing them at the time as ‘the best live act in Britain’. This 21 year anniversary reissue includes a limited edition, coloured 2xLP plus expanded digital & CD editions with bonus tracks selected by Adrian Sherwood. To celebrate the release the band are playing at Rich Mix, London on 28th March. By the time they recorded Rafi’s Revenge in 1998, Asian Dub Foundation were primed to explode. Having initially emerged from East London’s grassroots Community Music project as a largely studio-based collective, the band had galvanised themselves into a riotously exciting touring machine by the late Nineties. Their extraordinary live shows around this period were electrifying to witness, kinetic and dynamic, incendiary and euphoric, confrontational yet celebratory. For sheer roof-raising energy, they were unrivalled. ADF have evolved enormously over the last two decades, of course, but their breakthrough album remains a fascinating chapter in the real, complex, unwritten history of Britpop. Expanded and enlarged for this anniversary edition, these multi-layered musical treasures still dazzle and delight with their grandiose ambition and riotous energy.

Smallpeople - Afterglow (2LP)

Smallvillelp12(LP/CD) It’s been seven years since Smallpeople’s debut album, ‘Salty Days’. In the time since, much has changed in our world of dance music, and, so we hear, even beyond. Yet our men in Hamburg have remained dedicated to their unapologetically reassuring vision of house music as-a-whole. As well as expanding their Smallville Records shop in Hamburg’s St. Pauli, they’ve continued to act on their direct-line to the beating heart of house music at some of the world’s finest clubs, including their monthly residency at Hamburg’s legendary Golden Pudel, inviting guests such as Lakuti, Session Victim and Pantha Du Prince into the warmest dance in the grimiest club. Of course, all these manoeuvres sit alongside their work running Smallville Records, home to the likes of Moomin, STL and Christopher Rau, and it’s sub-label, Fuck Reality. Given Julius Steinhoff and Dionne’s stewardship in filtering the creme-de-la-creme of house music from the underground and into clubs across Europe and further afield, it would be particularly cliched on this occasion to stress that their second record is “eagerly awaited.” In their own way, they have already given us enough great records. But with ‘Afterglow’, we get another, and more importantly, one carved directly from the hearts and record collections of two individuals whose understanding of dance music appears to be some sort of blissful second-nature. This sort of earned assuredness is immediately established on opening track ‘Magic Interference’, a rolling, deep and somewhat jazzy house number with tumbling keys and sky-walkin’ chords. This steady, blissful vibe sets the tone for the first half of the record, as the pair patiently unfold their touchstones; equal parts Chicago (‘Hearts at Whole’), Detroit (‘All States of Dawn’) and Hamburg, famed for it’s transatlantic routes.

Various Artists - Schneeweiß 10 Presented By Oliver Koletz

SVT244CD Over the years, Berlin has been cited as Oliver Koletzki’s main point of reference and, more importantly, his endless source of inspiration. His albums Großstadtmärchen and Großstadtmärchen 2 are wholehearted tributes of the German capital, as its importance is continuously hinted and charted. Friedrichshain, one of Berlin’s vibrant districts, has always held a special place in Oliver’s heart. This is where he started out when he first moved to the city, and this is where he lives now. Kreuzberg’s wall paintings adorn Stil Vor Talent ’s cover sleeves and host their headquarters. There are little to no corners in the city that haven’t brought a spark of inspiration into the mix. The Schneeweiss compilation series, now at its 10th installment, is built as a form of tribute to all these particles, tied in together into a series of carefully curated tracks. Each compilation stands at the intersection of the musical and cultural surroundings most prominent of their respective times, acting both as a reminder as well as a timeless sound capsule for the years to come.

Various Artists - Munk Presents Teutonik Disaster (2x12"LP)

TOYT095TEUTONIK DISASTER (Compilation) German New Wave Funk 1979 - 1983 Compilation originally released 2003 on Gomma records. A very special compilation. 8 edits and reworks of rare German New Wave Funk and Disco Punk. Toy Tonics label heads Mathias Munk Modica and Kapote present Teutonik Disaster, a very special compilation with 8 edits and reworks of rare German New Wave Funk and Disco Punk from 1979 to 1983. There have been millions of typical disco edits in the last years. But there is so much more interesting music from the late 1970s and early 80s yet to bubble its way to the surface. One of those lesser explored fields is the crazy funky side of Germany’s underground disco and new wave from that period. At the time, many German bands were trying to make their own version of English and American styles. After Kraftwerk and Can had started to use the German language in a cool, new way, many bands that followed in their steps experimented with German new wave. Most of these bands didn’t reach a bigger audience. Their records never got pressed to more than 300 - 500 copies as they were a number of years ahead of the huge commercial explosion of German pop in 1984: The NDW aka “Neue Deutsche Welle", with Nena’s humongous hit 99 Red Balloons. The bands featured on the compilation released their music before the NDW hype and later broke up. Plenty of these early bands are best forgotten but if you dig deeper you’ll find the gems, bursting with style and attitude. And that’s just what Toy Tonics heads Mathias Munk Modica & Kapote did. They hit gold.
