Release Info:
New York flavoured edits by Jacques Renault in NeighbourSoul Rhythms’ third reference
Top house tunes and a lot of funk. This is how NeighbourSoul Rhythms’ third instalment of edits sound. This time under the stamp of Jacques Renault -currently resident in New York- NBS003 follows in the wake of its predecessor: 4 cuts direct to the dance floor, now cooked with special Brooklyn ingredients.
In NeighborSoul Edits Vol. 2, Renault, old acquaintance and emblem of the North American house scene, dusts off his art of sampling in 4 tracks that take a look back at a time in the America of discotheques, guitar riffs of funk and most importantly, dance.
4 edits from the late 70s and early 80s that confirm the label’s taste towards the oldfashioned sound born in the American continent. The EP begins with 'Magic Rhythm Machine', a true 70s disco banger and a prelude to what precedes it on the same side, 'JFK Disco Dub': a megafunk cut to be played at late
night hours. The B-side wanders between softer and more elegant sounds. Like ‘Real To Real’ (B1), with that fine and subtle touch of elegance of the North American master; or the B2, ‘Gotta Serve Somebody’, a slow closure, Groovy as hell and a fine line of acid cooked at low revs.

Bump 'n Grind Wax strikes again in 2022! A close friend of the Bump 'n Grind camp, Jacques Renault brings disco flare and funky house to two infectious edits on this limited release 7". One to make the vinyl diggers salivate.
The Let's Play House records boss shows off his affection for the baby-powered dancefloor on the A-side, "That's What You Are". A progressive tune that eventually leaves the listener swinging from a disco ball suspended from lush clouds overhead. Playful cymbals and guitar stabs decorate the sing-a-long hook, reminding us: we are all diamond-drenched dancing fiends.
Jacques' B-side edit of "My Love is Guaranteed" is a funky chokehold of a groove. A driving bassline of love leaves no doubt. A song filled with golden horns and a glimmering sample becomes the perfect selection for a DJ playing at a massive festival... or a wedding. Versatility!

Jacques Renault - Good Times
Like any good party, there's an after-party. What, you didn't think we'd keep it going? C'mon. We began this one with Jacques Renault's Sky Islands, a full-length album that sought to achieve euphoric disco delight within a wonky conceptual framework; it's his late-night live DJ sets in spirit, organized like a 70s or 80s vinyl megamix or public-access radio program, but comprised solely of a couple dozen originals he crafted in the studio, most of them being wrapped up during the summer and fall of last year. Of course, we realized delivering such an experience, where no “song” is more than about 90 seconds, would do nothing for the working DJ, unless the working DJ is looking to nod off for thirty or take an extended bathroom break. Thus, Coast to Coast, a 12-inch that collects seven of the songs from the LP—in full- length, special-disco-mix, club-ready form. This EP will be followed by more long-form cuts, as well as additional goodies. There will be an after-party for the after-party.

Jacques Renault returns for a third Take Away serving and it's as fabulous the previous meals.
As always when Jacques serves up something it's solid, gutsy stuff without dogma.
Dishing up a four course meal is not an easy task, you have to prepare and pick the very best ingredients, luckily this is the best of that, complete with the depth of musical flavour that only comes with a little age.
Mr Renault hits the sweet spot once again. More

For his third full-length album, Jacques Renault explores his craft through the format of the classic late-night radio megamix. It's a tour de force that finds him blending his quick-cutting DJ sensibilities with his crate-digging, drum-chopping disco-chemist bonafides into one wham-bam party of pastiche. This is Renault as we know him—but at hyperspeed, tearing through twenty- three tracks in under half an hour. And while it's a head rush of his trademark funky drums, sassy horns, playful synths, it's arranged as an album, with songwriting and structure at the fore. Imagine it as a flip on the script for Renault's most loved club 12-inches of the past, which luxuriate in long-form, stretched-out grooves that burn for hours, fills that ride for days. Instead of on pulling a thread for six, seven minutes, he romps around in a bouncy ball pit, plucking out whatever captures his imagination for a moment, then diving back in to discover another buried nugget. It's Jacques Renault as we've always known him, but this time through a suite of bite-size vignettes instead of slow-burn grooves.

Jacques Renault - Let Me Jacq" (Tee Mango remix)
Last year, we released LPH cofounder Jacques Renault’s sophomore album, BK Club Beats, Breaks & Versions, a back-to-basics effort that found the producer eschewing big-budget studio sessions and once again using samples as the clay with which he sculpts his music. Considering the snappy, cut-up nature of the tracks, we thought it’d be fun to invite a few of our friends to take the parts and reshape them into versions of their own design. Here, we present you with the four we gathered. DJ Boring’s is a restive spellbinder stuck in a trancey lock groove; M.I.A.L.’s a molasses-thick slow-mo chugger oozing all over your eardrums; Spencer Parker’s a sunny disco strutter spinning across the dancefloor; and Tee Mango’s a wiggy soul inversion that suavely seduces.

Three remixes contained here, two of which LPH released in 2017 and 2019, one of which our friends at XXX Records in Holland put out last year, and one original, a Juno advent giveaway from last December. All engineered with that sublime balance of precise arranging and loose, swinging drum programming Renault is renowned for. A must-have for your bag.

As you’ll recall,we released a cassette edition of the LP that was all ten tracks laced together,eighties/nineties mixtape-style, and topped off with five bonus tunes. What we present you with here is that extra material etched into vinyl for easier club use and personal playback.

Three years ago, a long-overdue and much-anticipated debut album from Let's Play House co-head Jacques Renault finally hit shelves, and now, the follow-up effort, the sophomore swing, arrives. If Zentrum was a sprawling and aspirant full-length, BK Club Beats, Breaks & Versions is an exacting and focused rejoinder, a powerful, punchy, and succinct exposition of Renault's skills and fortes. It's a deep-dive into the movements that sucked him into club music and a celebration of the inspirations that fueled his ascendance to DJ and producer in his own right. What we give you here is an album of originals that have been conceived, orchestrated, and stitched together to function as a classic Renault peak-hour set—classic house sounds sandwiched between hip-hop breaks and disco licks, all glued into place with his trademark full-bodied, colorful, swinging drums. The A-side has a daytime glimmer and glisten to it, a sunniness that imparts it with a distinct top-down-crisscross-through-the-city flavor. The flip is just as pumped and uptempo, but it has a rounder bottom and feels murkier, steamier, and, by extension, more late-night.

NYC stalwart and international superstar Jacques Renault joins Brooklyn cohorts for a 4 track EP of superior edit stylings! On the A side "Cold Blooded" sources a classic, focusing on a hypnotic and rhythmic pattern for a solid 6 minutes before exploding into exuberant soul, while "Get Down" is a loose and greasy funk stomper. On the flip, "Dream Machine" is disco sampled perfection, chopped and sliced with evident love. Finally, "That Sound" takes us home with its thunderous drums, slap bass, and a tasteful peppering of soulful vocals

jacques renault - Faith (Lemonade Remix)
The second of two Zentrum spinoffs is with us! As with the first, it comes loaded with four remixes. Octo Octa, Vito & Druzzi, Cooper Saver and Turbotito, and Lemonade all handed in top-notch reimaginings of tracks off Jacques Renault's debut LP, which came out just under a year ago, and they all somehow manage to be unique unto themselves while also sublimely bleeding into one another. Octo Octa's rendering of “Mi Casa Samba” serves as a propulsive beginning that's as dark and druggy as it is sharp and focused. Vito & Druzzi's take on “Faith” runs in a similar vein, but in a more stripped-back, drawn-out, and patient sort of way; it is nearly ten minutes long, so this is perhaps not a surprise. The B's remixes are brighter, sunnier, though that's not to say they're not bold. Cooper Saver and Turbotito's redo of “Words” has a certain funky swing to it that, paired with spacey synths and Balearic bells and whistles, makes it ideal daytime disco fodder. The Lemonade boys close the EP with their vibey take on “Faith.” Pads for days, a plump bass, and a focus on the original's sax make you wonder if the song itself somehow got stoned from a couple extra giant bong rips. A fitting way to end both the 12” and the summer.

Release info:
NeighbourSoul Rhythms continues recruiting international talent in its quest to
deliver the best disco and house from different points of the planet. For this
second release, it’s the American house legend, Rahaan, who delivers up to
four American disco edits focused 100% on the dance floor.
After releasing his latest works on Lumberjacks in Hell, Street edits, Disco
Deviance or Dopeness Galore, the veteran DJ and producer now signs a fourtrack EP for NeighbourSoul Rhythms, each one of them is frantically sweeping
and includes a special nod to the essence of 1970’s Chicago, his hometown.
With an immaculate reputation in the world's underground scene, Rahaan has
been spinning house and disco since the 80’s when he started playing at house
parties across the city.
NBS002 starts with 'To The Point', pure ecstasy at high bpm and the perfect
bridge for 'Cutting Loose', a slower cut but with a catchy and playful bass line.
On the B side, 'Last Thing' continues the accelerated rhythm of its predecessors
to end with 'Black Magik', a rhythmic afrobeat hypnotic slap ideal for twisting
potentiometers’ Djs.
NBS Rhythms is a new Spanish-French label operating from the Basque
Country, Galicia and Paris.

Having performed to over a million people worldwide in 2023, the self-managed South Korean-born, Berlin-based producer and artist has blazed her own trail as the first Korean DJ to play Berghain, the first female DJ to headline Ushuaïa Ibiza, and the first woman in over 20 years to appear within the Top 10 of DJ Mag’s annual Top 100 list.
Since 2016, she’s forged a singular blend of club music that’s as forward-thinking as it is nostalgic, finding her global breakthrough with 2018’s Once EP, which birthed hits like “It Makes You Forget (Itgehane),” and “Han Jan.” An essential tastemaker, she runs her music and design label Gudu, through which she issued her 2019 critically acclaimed Moment EP, designs her Kirin and Peggy Goods fashion lines, and sold out her own London Pleasure Gardens festival for four consecutive years. 2024 will see her biggest ever headline London show when she performs to 25,000 people in August
She’s collaborated with everyone from house legend Maurice Fulton (2020’s “Jigoo”) to South Korean counterculture hero OHHYUK (2021’s “Nabi”), and was enlisted for a 2022 remix of Kylie Minogue’s iconic “Can’t Get You Out of My Head.” Referred to as “the world’s hippest DJ” by The Guardian, Gou has graced the cover of Vogue Germany, Vanity Fair Italia, GQ Middle East and Korea, Harper’s Bazaar Malaysia, and others, while boasting collaborations with Louis Vuitton, Hyundai, Ray Ban, Samsung, and Authentic Beauty Concept.
She made 2023’s international song of the summer with “(It Goes Like) Nanana,” which topped singles charts in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Greece, as well as the Billboard Dance Airplay chart. The balmy club hit appears on her highly anticipated debut album I Hear You, which arrives in June on XL Recordings. Also featuring her Lenny Kravitz collaboration “I Believe in Love Again,” the LP sees Gou boldly claiming her voice through the kaleidoscopic lens of ‘90s house music. More

Today sees Belgian-Caribbean provocateur Charlotte Adigéry and her long-term musical partner, Bolis Pupul announce their debut album Topical Dancer, due for release on March 4 2022 via Soulwax’s iconic label DEEWEE.
Cultural appropriation. Misogyny and racism. Social media vanity. Post-colonialism and political correctness. These are not talking points that you’d ordinarily hear on the dancefloor but Charlotte Adigéry and Bolis Pupul are ripping up the rulebook with their debut album Topical Dancer. The Ghent-based duo, who broke out with their 2019 Zandoli EP, are rare storytellers in electronic music: they take the temperature of the time and funnel them into their playful synth concoctions – never didactic and always with a knowing wink.
Their debut studio record – which cements them as a duo under both their names for the first time and is co-written and co-produced by Soulwax – is both a triumph of kaleidoscopic electro-pop and “a snapshot of how we think about pop culture in the 2020s.” It captures Charlotte and Bolis’s essence as musical collaborators and the conversations they’ve had over the past two years on tour, as well as their perspectives as Belgians with an immigrant background, Charlotte with Guadeloupean and French-Martinique ancestry and Bolis being of Chinese descent.
Beyond the album’s thematic heft, Topical Dancer reflects Charlotte and Bolis’s idiosyncratic sound: it’s thoughtful but it bangs. Their take on familiar genres is always off-kilter; songs sound undone or a little wonky; but these are nocturnal heaters to make the club throb. “We like to fuck things up a bit,” laughs Bolis. “We cringe when we feel like we're making something that already exists, so we're always looking for things to combine to make it sound not like a pop song, not like an R&B song, not a techno song. We’re always putting different worlds together. Charlotte and I get bored when things get too predictable.”
Topical Dancer is fizzing with ideas – there’s certainly no filler among its 13 tracks. But above all, perhaps, it has a restlessness, a desire not to be boxed in and to escape others’ narrow perceptions of who they are. It’s summarised by the refrain of their new single, ‘Blenda’: “Don’t sound like what I look like / Don’t look like what I sound like.” “One thing that always comes up,” says Bolis, “is that people perceive me as the producer, and Charlotte as just a singer. Or that being a Black artist means you should be making ‘urban’ music. Those kinds of boxes don’t feel good to us.”
‘Blenda’ in particular references how “I am a product of colonialism,” says Charlotte, “and I feel guilty for taking up space in a white country.” The song was inspired in part by Reni Eddo-Lodge’s book Why I’m Not Longer Talking To White People About Race. “It talks about the colonial past and post-colonial present in the UK,” Charlotte continues, “but that isn’t merely a British or American problem, Belgium is part of that as well.” She says that her home country is likewise “oblivious to a big part of its history” which “results in general ignorance and a lack of understanding and empathy towards Belgian inhabitants of immigrant descent.”
On Topical Dancer, it’s less about finger pointing or being dogmatic about all the things they speak about. It’s about emancipation through humour. “I don’t want to feel this heaviness on me,” says Charlotte. “These aren’t my crosses to bear. Topical Dancer is my way of freeing myself of these issues. And of having fun.”

Short Info
Everything has its right moment in space and time. And Rhode & Brown’s debut album “Everything in Motion” is no exception to this rule.
But first things first:
Hailing from Munich, Germany, Friedrich Trede and Stephan Braun are the DJ and producer duo Rhode & Brown. Growing up in two neighbouring villages near Munich both of them had been music enthusiasts since their early childhood. Friedrich played drums in punk bands at school and recorded rap songs in his bedroom, while Stephan, as childhood friend of Harold Faltermeyer's son, had the chance to experiment in the impressive studio of the legendary Donna Summer producer in his early teens.
By the late 2000s older friends started supplying them with DJ mixtapes and helped them sneak into clubs they weren’t allowed to visit, yet – cultivating their love for electronic music and club culture. And, of course, the Internet was their go-to source for finding the latest blog house tunes back then, too.
It wasn’t until October 2009 that their paths would cross for the very first (but almost last) time when introduced by a mutual friend: Back then Stephan was selling his old CDJ-player and Friedrich, who wanted to hone his DJ skills, ended up buying it: „When I got home and unpacked the player I realized that it was the wrong model. I thought Stephan was trying to rip me off - so I called him in a rage and demanded my money back.“ Friedrich laughs. To cut a long story short, the two met again the same evening, money and CD-players were exchanged, but luckily so was their passion for house and disco music. It was at that very moment that Rhode & Brown was born.
A lot has happened since the two played their first gigs together and made baby steps in music production. In the past 10 years they established themselves as one of the most reliable house producers around with rock solid releases on Toy Tonics, Shall Not Fade, Public Possession or their own Slam City Jams imprint. As well as becoming a household name in the DJ world, sharing the booth with the likes of Palms Trax, Dam Swindle, Jamie Tiller or Octo Octa - spreading their infectious "Dancing Deejays" vibes around the globe.
Following the great reception of last years „Aku Aku“ EP, June 2021 will see the release of Rhode & Brown’s debut album on Permanent Vacation. A record that showcases their open minded approach to making music and a passion for the nuances between genres - „We found inspiration for this album in all corners of our record collection. That means we are as much influenced by disco or 80s synth-pop as by house and techno of the last decades or the latest viral trap hit on Spotify“, the guys say.
On "Everything In Motion" you'll hear piano house / Italo disco hybrids alongside dreamy Balearic soundscapes and '90s-infused acid breakbeats flawlessly accompanying '80s synth pop anthems. Always infused with that signature Rhode & Brown magic. The album also finds them collaborating with some of the finest vocalists of the moment: Peaking Lights' own Indra Dunis is lending her voice to the title track for this special laid back California vibe, while Berlin's hottest export DJ City evokes a neon light romance affair on "Memory Palace", with a longing poem that makes you wander the rainy streets at night with your walkman on.
At a time when suddenly everything seems to be standing still, Rhode & Brown undeterred moving forward... true to their LP’s title.

Toy Tonics label heads Mathias Munk Modica and Kapote present Teutonik Disaster, a very special compilation with 8 edits and reworks of rare German New Wave Funk and Disco Punk from 1979 to 1983.

There have been millions of typical disco edits in the last years. But there is so much more interesting music from the late 1970s and early 80s yet to bubble its way to the surface. One of those lesser explored fields is the crazy funky side of Germany's underground disco and new wave from that period. At the time, many German bands were trying to make their own version of English and American styles. After Kraftwerk and Can had started to use the German language in a cool, new way, many bands that followed in their steps experimented with German new wave. Most of these bands didn't reach a bigger audience. Their records never got pressed to more than 300 - 500 copies as they were a number of years ahead of the huge commercial explosion of German pop in 1984: The NDW aka "Neue Deutsche Welle", with Nena's humongous hit 99 Red Balloons. The bands featured on the compilation released their music before the NDW hype and later broke up. Plenty of these early bands are best forgotten but if you dig deeper you'll find the gems, bursting with style and attitude. And that's just what Toy Tonics heads Mathias Munk Modica & Kapote did. They hit gold.
Most of these tracks have already been released on the original "Teutonik Disaster" compilation in 2003 on Gomma Records. Gomma was the label that Mathias Munk Modica started before Toy Tonics 15 years ago, where he released records with James Murphy, WhoMadeWho, Asia Argento... Gomma is not active anymore, but it felt like the right time to re-release this compilation in 2019. Munk and Toy Tonics partner Kapote made new versions of these rare songs, adding drum machines and extended them. The result is unbelievable music, heavy funk basslines, soulful vibes, cool vocals that you would be hard pressed to expect from Germans and a vibe that slots in perfectly in 2019's post-techno and post-deep house scenario.
The artists:
Camilla Motor, Die Heteros and Exkurs: These bands were inspired by New York's proto disco bands like ESG or Liquid Liquid. Basslines that could come from a 1975 disco dancefloor and white boy funk drums which would bring to mind the music released on ZE Records during that period. Exkurs' "Fakten sind Terror" was discovered by Munk in an old vintage shop in Munich. It was first released on Gomma's original compilation in 2003, then re-released on Optimo's JD Twitch compilation "Kreaturen der Nacht" on Strut in 2018. Most of these musicians had connections to art academies in Cologne, Mannheim and Hamburg. They would often be dilettantes with their instruments, but with an unfailable passion for black music and new wave as well as dadaistic, ironic and scandalous lyrics: Take for example Die Heteros: "Monogamy, cannibalism of our days!" from the album "Romantik Ist Tot" (Cologne 1982). The title says it all.
Carmen's "Schlaraffenland", like most of these songs this track also came out in 1982. Two years before the commercially successful Neue Deutsche Welle exploded. Carmen's amazingly sensual German vocals stand out and the groove could easily have been on a Blondie or Talking Heads album. It's certain that these musicians tried to imitated the New York art funk vibe. The song was co-produced by Piet Klocke, who was part of another white boy funk group called Die Tanzdiele and later became a comedy star on German TV.
Die Chefs' "Frauenkörper" is a track from a band that deliberately flirted with controversy during its existence. Released in 1982, their album was took off the market by their label and their concerts were cancelled after protests. The track itself sounds like it could have been on a Prince record, with a weirdly funky beat and pan-asian indebted synth melodies
Roter Mund and B.B.B. are straight up disco vibes with German dada slogans, cold new wave drums but with a funky feel underpinning everything. You're guaranteed to rock any forward thinking disco dancefloor of 2019 with these. The two guys behind Hamburg's Roter Mund where inspired by American breakdance music when producing their debut LP in 1982. They pose with old school sneakers and imitate NY breakers poses on the back cover of the album. Later the guys became successful producers of German schlager (Germany's answer to mainstream pop). Munk & Kapote changed quite a bit here from the original versions, adding bass drums and hi hats, cutting out and repeating certain parts to make it sound fresher. The same process happened with B.B.B. where large sections of the original track were edited out.
Explorer's track comes from an album that was originally sonic experiments with early sequencers and synthesizers by Tony Carey, a legendary Californian musician who was part of Rainbow. He later moved to Germany where he worked with Peter Hauke but ended up producing schlager, TV commercials and pop. But his first album "Yellow Power" is cult. It's crazy to hear how these jams sound like early proto techno or electro funk. They could have been made in Detroit 15 years later. The original LP was cult between the late 80ies Cosmic and balearic scene. This is Robotic Funk.

Release Info:
This is already our seventh Deep Love compilation and we dare to say our most complete yet in sound and flow. The ten pieces on this sampler blend in perfectly with that laid back “late” summer mood. We are very pleased to welcome yet again some new acts to Dirt Crew with the likes of “Jaxx Madicine”, “Ouer”, “Times are Ruff” and “S3A”. We cross many borders not only in genres but also country wise. From the heavy Disco sampled jam by French producer “S3A” to the Jazz and Funk laden epos of the Italian 3 piece “Jaxx Madicine” over to the Dutch deep house boys “Times Are Ruff” who are well known from their, same named, label and finally to the Berlin duo “Ouer” who also run an own label and released with our good friends at “Heist Recordings”, delivering an ecstatic electronic floating tune here.
This is all completed by some excellence from long time Dirt Crew artists. “25 Places” have been with us for many years now and their two Ep’s have gotten so much love from the deeper deep house community. Here they drop an epic almost IDM techno like tune that closes this great album in the best possible way. Our Icelandic stall wart “Felix Leifur” drops a heavy hitter named “Buster”. After his recent “Bobby Donny” Ep earlier this year we are thrilled to have him back on Dirt Crew! “Harry Wolfman” and “Ponty Mython” need no introduction really, they are adding Electro/ Disco/ Electronica fuelled cuts that form a great middle part to this mix of tunes. Harry going in very smooth and relaxed, something else than his usual House workout which we really loved to present to you. “Ponty Mython” drops an irresistible “good times” indie acid track in his unique “free” style.
Last, we must of course not forget “Dan Only” and key wizzard “Lorenz Rhode”! With another beautifully smooth cut “Dan Only” follows up on his latest debut Ep with us. Again a smart cross over in Techno and House with a distinct relaxed groove and atmosphere to it. Lorenz is back “On Top” here after his super successful first offering to the Deep Love series last year and his “And I Said” EP which stormed many charts. In the middle of touring and working with Detroit Swindle on their “High Life” album we are super happy that he found the time to make another gem with that raw n funky live feel to it... We couldn’t have started this compilation off with a better joint than “Marakuja”.
Enough words for now ... just put these vinyl on your decks or stream/play it on the go and don’t forget to drop them at a sweaty club night. Deep Love is here to stay!

Short info:
In 2016, the new Breakbot version "one plus one" (Breakbot + Irfane) will release a second album, Still Waters, a new assortment of southern sunrays, with swinging images of dancefloors filled with guys in flowing trousers and bare-shouldered young girls. For this occasion, Breakbot and Irfane followed a well-oiled formula. They each cook-up outlines of rhythms and melodies that the two boys then modify, complete and prolong to reach a final draft. For Still Waters, which also contains 13 tracks, Breakbot have nonetheless tried out a few new moves: unlike the previous album, this one is more of a matrix with intricate workmanship, carved out with the help of old analogue machines rather than softwares. Some of these tracks were also happy accidents from improvisation sessions, ricochets of voices and chords born of old-school jamming sessions. Thirteen bouncy acts with Stevie Wonder and the Motown crowd in the background, spouts of funk and disco on a well-trodden dancefloor. Crafty ideas whipped-up in a vintage outfit with techno vibes and futuristic accelerations creating a perfectly current soundtrack. Tomorrow's retro.
With Still Waters, Breakbot introduces its new head along with a new uniform. With the help of art director Philippe Jarrigeon, the guy wearing short shorts and knee-high socks has become a character in a cocktail coloured costume, like a Florida prince. Image on music.

SHORT INFO:
After smooth detours into Soul covers, French Neo-Disco, modern Sunset Disco and Brazilian AOR, in 2022 DJ Supermarkt's Too Slow to Disco series makes a joyous return to its original Westcoast AOR/Yacht roots. Celebrating the 10th TSTD compilation. Who would have thought….
The Berlin curator releases a killer 4th edition of the original compilation art form, "Too Slow to Disco", featuring forgotten and overseen gems from the mid 70s to the early 80s from a global world of smooth, brilliant lost and overproduced tracks from Finland via London and L.A. to Trinidad and beyond.
The great 'un-vanisher' of lost lazy classics, DJ Supermarkt once again unearthed some incredible music that labels, publishers (in many cases also those, who actually own the rights to those tracks…) and streaming services have often long overlooked. You're welcome, world!
These sixteen tracks of newly ‘un-vanished’ hit-making genius find us once more in that delightfully Westcoast state of mind, the musical breeze in our hair as we corner on the headland, the top most definitely down. Too Slow to Disco 4 is also a love letter to the genre-smashing bravery of that era, Yacht Pop rubbing shoulders with Christian Gospel, groovy Folk, Country-Soul and Blue-Eyed Soul. As ever, DJ Supermarkts genius is to uncover the musical through line that joins these missing-in-action names and the tunes that could have been their big moment. The result is a kind of joyous alternative history of the era, where a very different pantheon of pop gods became the names we love.
As usual these tunes feature ludicrous levels of musical competence, boasting tight grooves in tighter polyester, and yet there’s (almost) not a single household name in sight. DJ Supermarkt is once again looking for the special “geniuses” in the background and behind the sound, musicians and a-list composers, whose names are not well known, but who wrote million selling tracks for other acts in the spotlight: Like Kenny Nolan, who a.o. wrote “Lady Marmalade”, The Dukes, who penned Sheena Easton’s “Modern Girl”, Air Supply’s “Every Woman In The World” and Chaka Khan’s “Fate”, famously sampled by Stardust for their French House Club-Hit “Music Sounds Better With You”.
Four of these 16 tracks are taken from super rare private press vinyls, unearthed by Dj Supermarkt over several years by chasing down the original composers, musicians or producers, and now officially rereleased for the very first time.
