Florentino - Con Luz
Florentino announces Kilometro Quinze, a brand-new EP out 20 October. The five-song project will be Florentino’s debut EP on XL Recordings as part of the iconic house bag series. It includes the celebrated single “Constrictor (feat. BAMBII and KD One)” and a newly released single “Pressure” featuring the Mercury Prize-shortlisted multi-hyphenate, Shygirl.
Created over a three-year period between Manchester, London, Bogotá, New York, and LA, Kilometro Quinze features bold solo productions from Florentino (aka Yeshe Bahamon Beesley) alongside additional collaborations with Venezuelan-native Baby Cocada and fellow Sangre Nueva bandmate, DJ Python.
A direct reference to his grandfather’s farm near Villavicencio - a city in central Colombia where the Andes meet the plains of Los Llanos - Kilometro Quinze is a total realisation of the riveting, cross-culture club sound that Florentino has carefully constructed over the last few years. By drawing on the vast musical influences of his British-Colombian heritage, Florentino presents a unique sonic world where the darker acid tones central to Manchester’s underground club scene meet the irresistible swing of Latin American dance sounds. Kilometro Quinze is Florentino at the height of his powers as he releases some of his most captivating, innovative music to date. More

Today Chicago-based percussionist, composer and producer Makaya McCraven announces the details of his new album In These Times, which is set for release on September 23rd via International Anthem / Nonesuch / XL Recordings. The first offering from the new album is a song tiled "Seventh String," which encapsulates the various musical dimensions present on McCraven's new album, a career-defining body of work that is a remarkable new peak for the already-soaring McCraven. In These Times is a collection of polytemporal compositions inspired as much by broader cultural struggles as McCraven's personal experience as a product of a multinational, working class musician community. It's the recording that he's been trying to create for 7+ years, as it's been consistently in process in the background while he's put forth a prolific run of releases including: In The Moment (2015), Highly Rare (2017), Where We Come From (2018), Universal Beings (2018), We're New Again (2020), Universal Beings E&F Sides (2020), and Deciphering the Message (2021). With contributions from over a dozen musicians and creative partners from his tight-knit circle of collaborators - including Jeff Parker, Junius Paul, Brandee Younger, Joel Ross, and Marquis Hill - the music was recorded in five different studios and four live performance spaces while McCraven engaged in extensive post-production work at home. Featuring orchestral, large ensemble arrangements interwoven with the signature "organic beat music" sound that's become his signature, the album is an evolution and a milestone for McCraven, the producer. But moreover, it's the strongest and clearest statement we've yet to hear from McCraven, the composer. Profiled in the New York Times, Vice, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, the Guardian, and NPR, among other publications, Makaya and the music he makes today is what Passion of Weiss explains, "is part of a necessary conversation about the next evolution of the Black improvised music known colloquially as 'jazz.' He's found the threads connecting the past with the present, and is either wrapping them with new colors and textures, or he's plucking them gleefully like the strings of a grand instrument." McCraven, who has been aptly called a "cultural synthesizer" and "beat scientist," has a unique gift for collapsing space, destroying borders and blending past, present, and future into poly-textural arrangements of post-genre, jazz-rooted 21st century folk music. In These Times encompasses his artistic ethos, his experiences, identity and lineage, while pushing his music to new heights.

‘still slipping vol.1’ is the debut full-length project from Joy Orbison. Fans of Joy O’s DJ sets and radio shows will already be aware of his diverse tastes and inspirations, represented here through a roll call of delicately curated, mainly UK, collaborators that include Herron, James Massiah, Bathe, Léa Sen, Goya Gumbani and TYSON. Just as important are the voices of Joy Orbison's family - mum, dad, sister Sarah, uncle Frankie, uncle Keith (recently departed), auntie Helen and cousins Lola, Mia and Leighann, who was the first person to introduce him to drum and bass and garage as a kid and stars on the mixtape’s cover art. They appear throughout the record via a series of voice notes, his only contact with his family during this year of worldwide lockdown and an intimate, vicarious glimpse into the personal world of an artist who has generally side-stepped the public gaze. John FM's American Spirit EP. Active in Detroit's underground music scene for the best part of a decade, John FM is respected by dance music heads for his collaborations with house music pioneer Omar S and NYC producer AceMo. American Spirit puts John's "staggering talent" (Resident Advisor) at the forefront: dance music that feels genre-less and accessible with elements of lo-fi House, RnB and Blues, inspired by the broad sounds of Detroit and the mid-west.

Rozzma - No Title
Today Rozzma announces the ‘Khatar Sayeb’ EP, the artist’s first release for XL Recordings. He kicks off the EP release with ‘Hout’, a track that displays Rozzma’s knack for combining tribal sounds and contemporary urban/street music with a sharp, idiosyncratic flair.
Rozzma is an Egyptian sound artist inspired by the era where sound preceded music – he finds inspiration in the similarities between the wilderness of prehistoric times and modern-day chaos. Having already performed his particular strain of music across the world and at festivals like Sonar and Unsound, Rozzma releases ‘Hout’ into the digital world with an animated video created by the artist’s close friend Mahmoud Shiha.
“Hout is a celebration of beating the odds,” says Rozzma. “It’s about a specific state of mind where one finds comfort in the most extreme and unfortunate circumstances to beat the odds that one could instead fear.”
The EP’s title ‘Khatar Sayeb’ means 'loose danger’. “The release challenges the idea that danger and fear are uncontrollable circumstances,” explains Rozzma. “We cannot fully diminish fear or danger. We can only condition ourselves to believe that safety exists during the absence of fear. It is however more dangerous to deny the uncertainty of danger itself. Danger is a very broad state with infinite circumstances. But it is also infinitely uncertain and mainly linked to luck. We do not control our luck; good or bad. And it is solely luck that dictates danger and safety. It is for that reason that one’s best chances may be to condition themselves to find comfort in danger. Loose danger to be specific.”
Rozzma’s world is one of status quos being challenged, whether that be the real world, the historical world or specifically in the world of music. Rozzma won’t let you settle with what you believe. Everything deserves to be challenged. More

More

MssingNo returns with the ‘Fones’ EP, the London artist’s debut release for XL Recordings.MssingNo first came to prominence in 2013 with the release of his debut ‘MssingNo’ EP on Goon Club Allstars. The EP immediately sent a seismic shock through the underground electronic music scene, especially EP track ‘XE2’ which became one of the year’s defining anthems and was named FACT magazine’s ‘track of the year’. Now, following a series of remixes of the likes of Cashmere Cat & Ariana Grande and Shura, plus collaborations with artists such as Katy B (on her forthcoming Honey album), MssingNo is set to release his follow up to the ‘MssingNo’ EP. Available on 12” and digitally, the ‘Fones’ EP will be released on XL Recordings – a label based within a stones throw of MssingNo’s Ladbroke Grove home studio – and features four tracks that showcase MssingNo’s crystalline hybrid of R&B and rave. Overflowing with trademark anthemic, ultra-melodic hooks, the ‘Fones’ EP is a further pointer towards MssingNo’s bright future. One track – Inta – was first featured on XL Recordings’ 2015 XL Chapter VI compilation album, while ‘Scope’ was premiered earlier this week by Radio 1’s Annie Mac. ‘The ‘Fones’ EP also sees XL continuing to reconnect with the spirit of the label’s early days. XL’s initial reputation was built around a series of underground, club-focused, outsider rave 12”s from the likes of The Prodigy, SL2, Awesome 3 and Jonny L. Recent releases have seen the likes of Zomby, Special Request and Hugo Massien harnessing that spirit and bringing it right up to date.

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Plastikman's redefining acid techno masterpiece, Sheet One, has been mastered from the original tapes and reissued on vinyl via Mute and NovaMute.
Released in 1993 on Mute's subsidiary label NovaMute, this record was the debut for Richie Hawtin's alias Plastikman. 30 years on Sheet One is a landmark album in the field of electronic music, it changed the shape of what the genre could be and became.
Introducing one of techno's most recognisable logos, the album achieved a degree of notoriety for its acid blotter-style perforated artwork. Musically it focuses on laser-precise minimalist rhythms to drive a series of echo-box acid lines that gradually acquire power over the course of lengthy album tracks, with frequent use of the Roland TB-303, which gained prominence in the electronic music world as a staple of Chicago's acid house scene. Hawtin once described Sheet One perfectly in an interview with MusicRadar, saying "...It's music for the end of the party as you're melting into the floor, which is exactly what the name Plastikman was made to represent."
This seminal album helped to establish the template for minimal techno, and is a must listen for lovers of electronic music.
Available on double bio vinyl.

Short info:
When he‘s not writing or recording, Baba Stiltz immerses in fearless fiction by the likes of Denis
Johnson and Dodie Bellamy; prose where pedestrian details become transcendent in aggregate and
the inner lives of marginal characters are examined as though they were kings. A similar thesis runs
through „Paid Testimony“, the essential second tape of minimalist guitar music from the FilipinoAmerican-Swedish artist.
In recent years, Stiltz has made like Lee Hazelwood‘s Cowboy In Sweden in reverse, making annual
pilgrimages from Stockholm to California and reconnecting with his roots via a guitar and a Fostex 4-
track. He‘s drawn to the less glamorous corners of the golden state, an observant habitué of unkempt
streets and dive bars stretching from LA to Vacaville. It‘s a long stretch from the jetset techno clubs
where Baba originally plied his musical trade, but it‘s where he finds characters and ideas worth
writing about.
The characters on „Paid Testimony“ are on the edge and on the run. Surrounded by flawed men with
big schemes since childhood, he extrapolates characters who plot bank heists and order milk and
vodka in AM hours, the type of confrontation- prone characters who „say some shit, make everyone
uncomfortable and then just split.“ To focus on the rawness
of this document would discount the humor and sympathy with which he treats his characters, not to
mention the subtly- psychedelic songwriting recalling David Berman, early Smog, the original indie
rock minimalist poets.
On the final song, Stiltz looks back on the city that raised him, „Stockholm,“ referencing „young
professionals carelessly living“ before adding „I can‘t say I‘m not jealous even though I live my life just
like they do.“ There‘s an honesty in the small details revealed on „Paid Testimony“, and a defined
sense of place, be it Stockholm, Sacramento or some dim barroom across from the Bank Of America.
Baba doesn‘t quite fit in anywhere. This outsider quality has often been used as a marketing tool, yet
here, it lends a writerly aspect to the proceedings, an unreality to the everyday.

Having been re-discovered as a groundbreaking slice of proto-grime from 1994, Dylan Beale’s legendary soundtrack for the SNES game Wolverine: Adamantium Rage finally gets the reissue treatment it deserves via Sneaker Social Club.
When the game came out in 1994, Beale’s soundtrack for the SNES edition stood out from the pack for its gritty beats, deceptively weighty low end and edgy orchestra stabs, but few would have guessed how certain tracks would predict the shape of music to come. Around 2016, the ‘Tri-fusion’ track in particular was picked up on by London-based producer Sir Pixalot as a mind-blowing slice of Eski beat coldness. To prove his point, Pixalot ran an acapella from J-Wing over the track and the results spoke for themselves.
While ‘Tri-Fusion’ is a straight-up accidental grime sheller, there’s scores more heat packed away in Beale’s soundtrack for Adamantium Rage. The limitations of the space on the game cart meant Beale had to get creative with the most limited samples. Fortunately his background producing UK hardcore and jungle in Rude & Deadly and Stuck To Your Lips meant he knew his way around the restrictions of an Akai s950. Fuelled by the inspiration of jungle and West Coast rap, he worked on the game soundtrack with a similar spartan attitude, limited to 200kb with which to load up the music engine for the game, samples and all.
Given the importance of minimalism in the effectiveness of soundsystem music, it’s not surprising tracks like ‘Cyber’ and ‘Dark Queen’ pack a punch which could absolutely set a dance off. Watch out for ‘Weapon X Lab’ too - another stand out bomb creating a deadly machine funk out of the tightly clipped bass samples and weird animal groan loops. Alongside the full, original soundtrack, this first issue of Wolverine: Adamantium Rage OST comes with additional tracks never used in the original game which widen out the styles Beale was exploring within the shockingly limited means at his disposal.
“I vividly remember when we first played the soundtrack on a bigger set of speakers to the boss,” Beale recalls, “his initial reaction was one of amazement that we had created something so ‘real’and different in comparison to everything else out there in terms of video game music, which I remember with great pride and fondness. Comparing to everything out there, it was totally unique- a moment in time.” More

The 12" begins with the title track “Power Of Thought” - which immediately erupts into a hypnotic techno beat interspersed with spoken mantras of mindfulness. This is followed by “Pria”, a pulsating journey featuring hypnotic, mantra-like vocals. The EP ends with ambient track “Abada”, punctuated with the occasional drum and chanting vocals before it quickly strips away to silence. “For ‘Power Of Thought’, I wanted to create an EP that touches deeper emotions and captivating the meditative trance you have when you let go on the dance floor,” says de Witte. “‘Pria’ has already brought me a lot of joy over the last few months when I have played it during my sets. It offers a moment of reflection and a chance to catch your breath during the rougher, more peak time tracks I play. ‘Abada’ is a track that I really enjoyed making. I discovered these magical chanting vocals and I just knew I wanted to use them in a track. Though this track is maybe less playable in one of my sets, I feel that Abada found its home on this EP and completes the ‘Power Of Thought’ circle.” Best known for her “dark and stripped-back” brand of techno and crossover to other sounds of the underground, Charlotte de Witte pushes the boundaries of the electronic genre with music that has a distinct and unforgettable sound that is uniquely her own. De Witte’s innovative ability allows her to seamlessly blend genres and styles that have won her a dedicated fan base and critical acclaim.

”Twenty years ago, something magical happened. In the space between technology and ideology, two terms that have been
fighting each other to define the days that have come since, an album appeared. A collection of songs that seemed defiantly out
of place. Yet somehow these songs knew themselves. Which, thinking back on it now, better explains why their creator, a young
Swedish musician called José González, felt so familiar to us so quickly.” Zane Lowe on José González’ Veneer.
Today visionary singer-songwriter and guitarist José González has announced the release of a 20th Anniversary Deluxe version of his
uncompromising, candid, game-changing debut album (2003) Veneer. It features newly remastered audio of the seminal album as well as a
bonus disc, comprising 13 intimate recordings from his historic 2003 performance at Gothenburg Concert Hall.
The 20th Anniversary Deluxe Version of Veneer will see release on limited edition double blue vinyl and digitally on October 27th, 2023 via
Peacefrog Records. It features a hand-numbered gatefold and a 24-page booklet filled with archival photos, essays, a song-by-song guide
from José and more.
Veneer made an indelible mark in its understated, expressive brilliance and cemented José González as a meticulous sonic craftsman and
songwriter of singular talent. It’s hard to believe an album recorded with the most basic equipment in a cramped Gothenburg flat could end up
going platinum, not only in Sweden but also the UK, selling well over 1 million copies worldwide. It’s harder still when one acknowledges that,
aside from one brief trumpet solo and the slightest hint of percussion, the record features just one hushed voice and the dexterous picking of an
acoustic guitar’s nylon strings. But 2003’s Veneer was such an album, charting in several countries in the world, and eventually making Top 10
in the UK, thanks in part to its delicate, evocative cover of The Knife’s “Heartbeats”.
Praise for Veneer:
Magical... a supreme talent, reminiscent of the late Arthur Russell The Guardian

Tracklist
A1. Manticora - B1. Celeno - B2. Aello
Shortinfo:
It's a match made in heaven, techno veteran Dino Sabatini meets up and coming talent Luigi Tozzi, who over the last couple of years has delivered stellar EPs for the likes of Hypnus Records, Dynamic Reflection, Mental Modern, and Sabatini's own Outis Music. Anyone familiar with the two will know they share an aptitude for adventurous and evolving techno. This is crystallised in this collaboration, which doesn't take the easy path of creating straightforward club tracks. Instead, the three tracks on this release explore the subtler sides of the two producers. That's not to say this isn't club music - it
is - but they have a lot more to offer than pure functionality. The EP opens with Manticora. This eight-minute experience takes the listener through
winding claustrophobia as ringing feedback pulses across the stereo field and cavernous rhythms dance about, hard to quite grab. These rhythms build to a point to which they solidify and fall into place, a point at which the track gains a feeling of propulsion, alongside shifting and emotive reverberations and resonances. Next up is Celeno, a track that slowly unravels under a backing of shuffling hats and a rolling kick drum. Twinkling synths swirl around before giving way to a rhythmic and compelling melody. Celeno's musical themes continue into the third and final track, Aello, which eases you in with softer drums while a haunting drone builds up. Over this, ghostly arpeggios develop alongside weightier drums that carry the track through until the end, leaving just enough time for the drone to ring out and provide a fitting end to the EP.

Roots run deep on "Candid', the first LP by Munich-based producer Polygonia and drummer Simon Popp. The record is a perfect blend of their distinct voices, with Popp's drumset and his signature percussion sounds buzzing around Polygonia's bold and blooming productions.
Comprised of live material recorded at Munich's ZIRKA in late 2022 and over several studio sessions in-between touring duties, 'Candid' is a meadow of herbal Electronic, mystic at times, but joyful nonetheless.

Thomass Jackson - Back In Guadalajara
Thomass Jackson presents UFO HOUSE.
A fixture in Mexico's thriving electronic scene, the Argentinian import has made a name for himself alongside cohort Iñigo Vontier with a style that seamlessly blends haunted desert disco with gritty acid house and techno.
This EP might be his most cogent formulation yet, a mightily playable set of peak-time DJ-friendly tracks that bring enough mystery and wonkiness to a perfectly club-ready backbone. It's a conspiracy of sound, a cosmic abduction with pulsating rhythms and hypnotic bleeps sure to melt minds on the dance-floor.
DJ Feedback:
Tiefschwarz - "soooo gooood!!"
Roe Deers - "dope EP"
Matt FX - "an absolute tour de force EP. hard to pick a favorite, maybe guadalajara"
Justin Strauss - "great ep"
Kiki - "Cool trax!"
