Within the first minutes of reverbed vocalsamples appearing out of ambientish soundscapes, the listener becomes a confederate within Quantec‘s sound universe. Statements that seem to speak to oneself from another space and time set the mood for his new Album ‚1000 Vacuum Tubes’. Its surprisingly melodic an rhythmic opener ‚Ayahuasca’ sets the mood for Quantec’s versatile voyage through his own Dub history. Sven Schienhammer, the man behind this moniker, has a broad view on the sounds an techniques of Dub. Where in other productions coldness and monotony became a standard sound of Dubtechno, the psychedelic warmth of this longplayer let the listener dive constantly deeper into Quantec‘s ‚Vacuum’.
Within the full length of the album, the tracks keep up a certain kind of lightness while still remaining dancable all the time. Vocal cut-ups and fragments of house music like in ‚Truth Maintenance’ and ‚Eternal Soul’ are as well processed as deep basslines and meditative echospheres (for example ‚Unplumbed Depth’ or the title track ‚1000 Vacuum Tubes’).
Reminiscences of the analogue beginnings of the ‚Basic Channel Sound’ like in ‚The Gathering’ sup up with modern digital arrangements (‚Brain Machinery’). Everything ist held together through the pointed use of vocals that create the necessary amount of personality and deepness. Besides all its complexity Quantec‘s album always remains a traditional Dub album. Which is a good thing. The different approaches of the tracks point to a greater understanding of dub as a production method that consits of much more than a typical trademarksound. It’s not the effects that stand in the foreground but a way of fathoming the different forms of expression of Dub in electronic music. ‚1000 Vacuum Tubes’ generates its special qualities from a deep understanding of a long history of Dub in Techno music. Quantec knows how to combine these elements to create a magnificient and timeless longplayer.

OUR man Quantec is nothing if not versatile. An aficionado of many styles including ambient, deep house, Detroit, dub, dubby electronics, experimental and roots reggae, he can turn his hand adeptly across the musical palette. For this his latest release on Neighbour Recordings it’s all about the ‘D’; deep ambient, drone and dub techno that’s dope with a capital ‘D’. Not for nothing is his album titled Journey of Mind. It’s a personal and self-assured trip from first note to last – not surprising for a producer with almost 25 years in the game – drifting as it does through contemplative sonic worlds and ethereal soundscapes. And while the label co-owner’s handiwork here is from the ‘less is more’ school of production, it’s nonetheless big on atmosphere with an undercurrent of drama or melody never too far away. AND so the spotlight pans to Quantec. Having launched Neighbour Recordings with the
Life Is Rhythm EP from Base Pilot, the studio collaboration between label owners Birke
TM and Quantec, the imprint now turns to the latter for a solo follow-up with the muchexperienced
artist turning in the tasty Moments EP. A self-confessed lover of old-school
synths and their lo-fi beauty and emotion, this child of the Eighties naturally gravitates
towards deep, dubby, Detroit-esque vibes and much more besides. You can hear it again
in his latest work. The dramatic mesmerising synths of Inception are the most apposite
aural appetiser, setting the scene perfectly for the main event and dovetailing snuggly
with the dub-flecked deepness of Momentum I and the irresistible drive of the truly dope
Nocturne. The pulsating, near-menacing throb of Momentum II explores different
territory – that of techno – whilst the spacey, chilled groove of Diurnal is the perfect
comedown from the EP’s more heady business.

Second reference of the Spanish label SineRec This time the hand of German Quantec, momentarily abandons those atmospheres characteristics and leads to a more usual forceful style. A very clean and not too much saturation in style chords. Spaces warm and very danceable. Music definitely cheerful and very valid.

Two years have passed since 'Beyond Time' conquered the hearts of all the fellow space cadets from Ibiza to Frankfurt. Regardless of time and space, 'Electronica' is a worthy follow-up album. The album 'Electronica' by the professional chillers of Noom Café is ready to enchant the listener with its Balearic charm. And like the title track 'Electronica (La Droga)' already announces, no limits are known for the heady cosmos of electronic sounds. 12 tracks made their way onto the album, too many to highlight each one of them. Noom Café draw on unlimited resources of their fundus. Ambient tracks ('Polaris', 'Mother Earth') invite the listener to dream oneself to the most remote places of the universe. Reclined Broken Beats of the Viennese School ('On My Way') take on romantic Balearic synth tracks. Cinematic moments evoke reminiscences of foreign countries and undiscovered archipelagos. Here stories are told and associations are being played with. Songs like 'Atoll' and 'La Isla' set the course for an endless journey. But where does this journey lead? For Noom Café it is always a journey to one's self: The living utopia of a consciousness in harmony with the environment. Taken as a whole 'Electronica' represents a retrospective. It replaces genre boundaries with dazzling fusion. Each song participates to develop the foundation of a message that seems to stand above all: We are one. At the end of the album we finally celebrate the return from a long journey together with Noom Café and their friends. The bass drum moves to the fore again when the remixers take over to end the day with a boisterous celebration. And we are already looking forward to the next adventure.

This is where Dubtechno meets Chillout Moods, analog Synthsounds combine with percussive instruments. It is World Music as the lowest common denominator that describes the style of the album most likely. While having travelled around the world to many distant countries, Buttha drew the inspiration he nowadays converts into music in his studio in Berlin mostly using purely analog equipment. The sound should be rough, not digitally polished. With "Magic Island" he travels to possible places of desire, fortune but also darker realms. The result is a complex album that works primarily through its timelessness away from the fast-paced party life. The love of nature is reflected in his tracks ever again. Titles such as "Eivissa" and "Atlantis" give a foretaste of the upcoming stories of the magical islands. Mythical cities with which everyone associates his own hopes and fears. Since 2008 Buttha has releases his musical output on his own label BackisBlack Recordings. With his album on Elux Records he now spans the full range of his work. Melancholic dreamy easy listening is being combined here with relaxed danceable euphoria. In 17 tracks Buttha takes us to unheard acoustical places. What exactly has happened to all the Chillout Floors? Once being an indispensable place for cozy hangouts and relief at every good party, they calmly dissipated in the last decade. They were eventually replaced with second and third floors, all with the same standardized ‘four to the floor’ sound without attitude. And now Noom Café come with an album that sounds like being made in the best times of the Chillout Era. Is there a Chillout revival coming upon us? For Noom Café this is not the question. They live for relaxed beats and low key soundscapes ever since. Their new Album ‘Beyond Time, released by the Frankfurt label ‘Elux’, is like a fresh breeze on a Balearic evening in summer. Acoustic instruments and swinging beats, like in ‘Blue Sky’,melt into electronic pads and reverberant vocal samples.
